Thanks for your clear voice.

More voices.......we need many more voices speaking out loudly and often. Time is being wasted by those with wealth and power who adamantly defend unsustainable status quo overconsumption, overproduction and overpopulation activities of the human species that are overwhelming and threatening to ravage the Earth in our time. Because these distinctly human activities could soon become patently unsustainable, necessary behavior change has to occur fast. If more members of the human family do not speak out to vigorously resist what the leaders of the human community are demanding all of us do now as we strive to ravenously overconsume Earth's resources; to relentlessly hoard wealth; and to overproduce unnecessary stuff, then the planetary home we are inhabiting and overpopulating could be made uninhabitable for our children and life as we know it by 2012.

A jeremiad concerning wasting time and keeping silent.

My not-so-great generation of elders will likely be remembered as the perpetrators of the most perverse, self-serving silence in human history. No other generation has taken so much from this good Earth, threatened the very future of its own children and given so little of themselves to preserve life for coming generations. Photographs of us will disclose both our corpulence and hollowness.

Although the disclosure of truth is unsettling, hiding the truth from the human community could be a monstrous example of human-driven foolery, one that could soon lead to a colossal ecological wreckage.

To suppress the truth by conscientiously substituting whatsoever could somehow be true with willful silence is tantamount to the commission of a pernicious lie.

A widely shared and consensually validated determination among people with knowledge to maintain their silence, when remaining silent betrays intellectual honesty, conceals the truth and thwarts courageous action, is the most dangerous of all global threats to the family of humanity, life as we know it and the preservation of Earth as a fit place for human habitation.

From this perspective, perhaps we can begin to apprehend the actual, most formidable enemy of future human wellbeing and environmental health.

Just like you... I too am concerned by the current situation...enough so to leave an engineering position on the production side of things and jump fence to the recycling side. I intend to use my skillsets to make a difference...not my voice to create a panic.

I have been in the process of gaining data...for the purpose of building a recycling center in Michigan. One thing I know is this...I am not biased about who's data I use...but your statement that plastics production accounts for 10% of the worlds oil consumption is blatantly incorrect...the numbers I'm seeing are in the 3-5% range...with improvements made over the last couple of years... and a trend towards making things right.

I will say that I agree with you fully..there is a very strong need to educate the public. But education is NOT defined as propaganda...it is a clear representation of both sides and ALL issues..so that educated decisions can be made based on the facts...not ropes hung in a medieval witch hunt.

I run a plastics website...and I have a section devoted to environmental concerns. This section exists for the sole purpose that I as a person who loves this planet have the same concerns regarding its misuse as you do.But the products I produce have been in your best interest...I've been breathing the fumes you fear for 23 years now...and I am as healthy as a horse.

Bags an issue...you betcha...marine aquatic issues...certainly...but that is why I'm here. Because I care, and want to make a difference. I am glad to help...I'm more than willing to listen. But remember...there are two sides. And they live and breathe the same air....

I know that I ran across this at a later date...but what do you think of the fuel prices going on in these last couple weeks. Under 2 dollars, who would have ever thought when prices were at least doubled this summer. I'm afraid that it's not going to last much longer though. Take a look at this post that I ran across on PetermansEye.com. I know all will enjoy!

Homeland Security is hoping for McCain to win. I have proof of that .
If you are in the coal mining bizz then vote McCain because Obama has you in his sights to shut you down. PA needs to remember what happened when the steel plant shut down. How many ghost town will Obamas make. If it wasnt for company's like Phoenix Glass that part of PA would have gone out . You dont kill jobs ,You dont raise taxes and spend more on a weak dollar. YOU CUT TAXES YOU SPEND LESS AND YOU KEEP AMERICANS WORKING.

$1.5 trillion mess forced upon American tax payers by the CEOs of Fannie May and Freddie Mac are economic advisers to Barack Obama. In addition, Obama is the "largest recipient of political funds from mortgage giants Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae."

Think about it, just look how Obama's economic advisers, CEOs Franklin Raines and James Johnson, ran Fannie and Freddie into the ground. This whilst forcing more debt, in the trillions, upon tax payers meaning higher taxes for Americans.

The Democrat controlled congress just helped in causing this financial meltdown. Before the Democrats controlled congress the US economy was strong, but ever since then the economy has been heading downwards.

The Democrats control all branches of government except the executive branch. Do we really need more of the same Democrat agenda? Do Americans really want more socialism that creates bigger government, more government spending, and higher taxes that ultimately gives more control of government over the people??

How often do you think a lawyer turn preacher politician lies? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMUgNg7aD8M
